The existence of ghosts have been debated for years. While some say that there is no such thing as a ghost, others insist otherwise, citing their own personal, and sometimes unsettling, experiences. For people who fall into the latter category, there is at least one group on their side: South Jersey Ghost Research.
According to their website, SJGR is a nonprofit group whose primary goal is to investigate and help people understand the nature of any spiritual activity that may be happening on their property. In their investigations, SJGR utilizes scientific methods as well as the help of psychic investigators to determine whether or not an area really does have visitors from the "other side."
"We do offer our assistance for free," said assistant director Kristyn Beaty. "Our goal is to make [sure] you can co-exist with the energy living in your house because you really can't make a ghost move."
This past Saturday, the SJGR stopped by Rowan University as a part of their series of fall lectures and seminars. The group touched on a variety of subjects ranging from what constitutes evidence of spiritual activity to famous haunted locations they've investigated through the Delaware Valley, including Rowan's own Tohill Auditorium.
"We've been here [at Tohill] on three times for investigations, and we've had consistent activity every time," said director Dave Juliano.
"During one investigation, one of the motion detectors went off moments after we had set it up. We were on the opposite side of the auditorium, so none of the investigators set it off."
Besides the usual bumps in the night and occasional door opening and closing itself, Tohill seems to house two "regulars."
"There have been two consistent entities here," said Juliano. "One is a woman in an old style dress. The other is of a man who appears to come up the entrance ramp and turns the corner to head up the stairs, only to disappear a few steps later."
